I drove by a sign that said, “Spring is here, finally!” Do you believe it? While the sun is presently shining in Bellingham, WA this Tuesday, April 19, 2011, it’s verrry cold. We’ve had snow in our foothills the past few days and it hailed in my neighborhood this morning. So while spring is technically here, the weather to support the claim isn’t cooperating.

 I hope many of you parents, grandparents and friends of Squalicum High School students were able to attend Big Bad the Musical and Broadway Revue this past Wednesday through Sunday in their school auditorium. If you didn’t, you missed some great entertainment! Performing singers, Alec Smith (solos “Empty Chair at Empty Tables” from Les Miserables & “The Impossible Dream” from Man of LaMancha), Emma Schinker (the singer of “All that Jazz” from Chicago), Hannah & Gabrielle Hamilton (Phantom of the Opera piece) and Jake Booth (a leading role in Big Bad the Musical), were OUTSTANDING, as well as, their backup support in acting, musical accompaniment and dancing.

Proceeds from the musical will help enable SQHS Thespian Troupe’s national qualifiers to compete in Lincoln, Nebraska in June. The first performance on Wednesday evening was on a donation basis. The following evening performances were $8/per adult and $4 for children 12 and under. In my estimation, it was worth every penny spent and more. We attended the Friday evening show. Our family and friends were very impressed. My daughter who attended again on Saturday evening, said the performers did even better. I’m told that is true of the Sunday performance, as well.

“Kudos” to the drama teacher, Chelsey Campbell, for her tremendous effort, work and enthusiasm - so necessary for the success of any event and this event was, in my estimation, a TREMENDOUS SUCCESS!
