It's presently raining this Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in Bellingham, WA. Umbrellas are a good choice if you're planning on taking a walk. If you're biking, be sure to wear a helmet and raingear AND don't drive too close to the edge of the road as puddles make for a good drenching when cars drive by.
Did you KNOW...that 70 percent of people say that no matter how hard they try, they never seem to have enough time to do everything they need to do? If we are part of that 70 percent, we could benefit by the suggestions made in the Bellingham Herald's article,
For a Better World - Turn off your TV! If we gave up TV for just one day a week, we could exercise the recommended weekly amount for healthy living, read over 20 books a year or spend more time with our loved ones. Instead of watching reruns of "Friends," we could spend the time making new friends.
The following are some recommended actions for those of us who may be TV couch potatoes:
-
Turn off your TV today. Tape a "No TV" sign on all TV screens so that you don't turn it on out of habit.
-
Designate certain TV-free times throughout the week to reduce viewing hours.
- Remove TVs from bedrooms, the kitchen, etc.
-
Make a list of activities to do besides watching TV - activities like reading, biking, swimming, walking, gardening or socializing with friends (or how about writing to friends that have moved away). Then start doing them.
- Avoid using TV as a reward - this only increases its power.
-
Be more selective about programming and choose history, travel, cooking, home repair/design and other educational themes.
